MINTEH SCORES! Osman and Welbeck combine well in the centre circle before the former plays it to Minteh. The winger runs at the Verdy defence before curling a lovely effort into the bottom left corner. The keeper didn't have a hope of saving that. Two in two on the Japan tour for Yankuba!

Well constructed Albion move

That's a brilliant move as the ball is pinged into the chest of Osman who brings it down for Yalcouye to hit on the half volley, but it's straight into Matheus's gloves. Mitoma then looks set to score, but his strike from a tight angle is kept out by the Verdy keeper.

Welbeck denied before stabbing wide

Osman's shot from 12-yards is deflected wide for a corner. Albion's set-piece strategy of having the players in a line on the penalty spot comes very close to paying off. Barco's corner finds the head of Welbeck but its kept out well by Matheus, it comes straight back to Welbeck at lightning speed and he can only poke it wide from close! Surely any other contact on the ball and it's in the back of the net.

Someno gets a low cross in from the right and Yumami races onto it, but the angles too tight as his first time effort hits the side-netting.

Barco looks for a crossing option from a fairly central position outside the box but nobody is making a run, so the Argentinian shoots and despite the zip on the shot, it's straight into the hands of Verdy keeper Matheus.

That's a great effort again from the lively forward, as he drives a strike just over the crossbar from the edge of the area.

That's a superb goal for Verdy. Yumami plays an unbelievable pass from left to right across the edge of the Albion box to pick out Kimura who buries it in the bottom right corner.

Good chance for Verdy

Yumami is proving to be a real threat for the local team, as he sits an Albion defender down with a chop before seeing his strike from eight yards blocked by James Milner. Verdy have certainly been the more fluent early on.

Shot deflected wide

Hiroto Yamami's effort from the edge of the box is deflected behind for a corner. Verdy don't make the most of it initially, but recycle they ball and Yudai Kimura thumps a shot just over the crossbar from 20-yards.

Speaking ahead of today's game, Fabian Hurzeler was keen to see his team improve tactically. “Against Kashima Antlers, we struggled a little bit with our defence. With our last line, how we get pressure on the ball, how we defend when we go into high pressure. “We were too often in a low block. “We don’t want to be so often in a low block. “The switch between a low block getting into a high block was not the best so we tried to work on that. “And on top of that, I think the positioning with the ball was not clear enough. “We have also worked on that."
