A good game and the right result. With 20 minutes or so to go Villa looked to have settled for what they had. Albion's subs had the right impact and Lamptey's finish earned us a deserved point. O'Riley's shot is blocked, Albion appeal for a penalty but the referee says no. Igor is booked for impeding Rogers and Villa force a corner which Albion clear.

A great move and great finish. Mitoma's cross is helped on by Joao and Lamptey comes onto it in the D and lashes a right-foot shot past Martinez for his second goal of the month! As good a finish as his effort at Leicester.

Space opens up in the D for Minteh, who did well initially to win the ball high up, but his right-foot shot is always going wide of the post. You feel there is still a big chance left in this game for Albion to equalise.

Jacob Ramsey comes on for Bailey with 13 minutes to go.

Decent spell of pressure ends with Baleba hitting one from 20 yards but Tielemans' deflection takes the sting out of the shot and Martinez flops gratefully on the ball.

The subs have perked up Albion's attacking threat but Martinez yet to be tested in the second half. Albion need to be aware of Villa's threat on the break but there is still time for us to get something from this one.

Ayari is replaced by Matt O'Riley with just over 20 minutes left.

Ball breaks after Minteh wins the ball on the edge of the centre circle to Joao who is onside as he goes in on goal. Rutter is unmarked to his left but he opts to take on the shot and it goes well over. Good chance.

As expected, Kaoru has already looked lively and has the beating of Konsa down the left. At the other end Lamptey got well to block Tielemans' shot after Villa broke through Bailey.

Rutter, Minteh and Mitoma coming on. Off come Adingra, Enciso and Gruda.

Bailey gets away down the right and feeds Watkins who is in space. He goes for the near post but van Hecke clears superbly. Villa pressing for a third here.

Watkins' assist took out five Albion players and Rogers had time and space to line up his shot. No chance for Verbruggen.

Morgan Rogers makes it 2-1. Watkins clips the ball over a handful of Albion defenders to Rogers, who drives the ball across Verbruggen and into the far corner.

Great start by Albion and a wonderful finish by Adingra to put us in front. Villa hit back with a contentious penalty by Watkins on his birthday.

The Villa striker loses his marker at a corner but heads a yard over. Albion will be happy to get to the break at 1-1 so they can regroup.

Another effort on target from Albion but Joao's low strike from just outside the box is too close to the Villa keeper.

He brings down Joao Pedro from behind in the Albion half.

Two bad injuries and two VAR checks means a very lengthy period of stoppage time.

Villa are a threat on the counter and Albion did well there when Bailey got in a cross from the right but Lamptey challenges Watkins whose header is easy for Verbruggen.

The referee getting plenty of stick from Albion fans, not only for the penalty but for allowing play to continue with two Albion players down in the Villa box. Fortunately the attack comes to nothing.

Watkins sends Verbruggen the wrong way, but that was a very harsh penalty against Albion.

After two or three minutes at the monitor Attwell points to the spot.

Pawson is at the monitor adjudicating on a possible foul in the box by Joao as he tried to clear the corner and Rogers went down.

Albion struggle to clear the corner, Watkins lays it off to Luca Digne and his strike from the edge of the box deflects off Lamptey but Verbruggen gets down to his right to make a one-handed save.

Rogers goes down under van Hecke's challenge and it's gone to a VAR check after referee Craig Pawson initially awarded a corner.

Lovely break by Albion down their left. Joao feeds Enciso and he takes aim from 25 yards and his curler is touched wide by Martinez. JP gets on the end of the corner but heads it just wide.

Rogers' low cross from the left is aimed for Watkins at the far post but Dunk intercepts and the ball goes out off the Villa striker.

Albion in front! Lewis Dunk's long ball down the left is laid off by Joao and Simon Adingra cuts inside Pau Torres and hits a right-foot shot into the far corner for his fifth goal of the season and first in the League since the opening day at Everton.

Albion had a free-kick 30 yards out but it was overhit by Yasin Ayari. Villa then broke doen the left but Morgan Rogers' cross was intercepted superbly by JP van Hecke and Bart Verbruggen grabbed the loose ball.

A bit like JP at West Ham, Joao is continuing with his head protected by a bandage.

Another sold-out away end and it's Albion fans who are making the noise as we approach kick-off.

Reason for four changes… Because of the schedule and also because the players who have been on the bench deserve to play. I hope we bring a good balance between fresh players and players who deserve to play. On recent run… The four draws in our last six game have all come in different ways. You have to analyse it game by game and then make sure you always believe in the group and the players believe in themselves, that they don’t lose self confidence and trust in each other. You have to work for the game luck and then change the good performances into three points. On Aston Villa… We have come here to win. After six games without winning you have this desire and longing to take three points. They have big individual quality but we have high expectations of ourselves and we hope to give the fans a present.
